With less than a week left in the election campaign, is there any point in making donations in close ridings? Absolutely. As people in the political game will tell you, any campaign has two halfs: everything that happens before election day, and getting out the vote.

Without the resources to get out the vote, all the good work on policy development, communications and door-knocking can be a waste. That’s why your donations at the end of a campaign are critical to ensure that the maximum number of people will participate in our democratic process.

Harpers’s election organization is very well organized and resourced. In almost all of the close ridings in 2008, the Conservatives spent to their limit allowed by Elections Canada, whereas opposition parties could not.

The burgeoning support for the NDP has meant that many ridings that didn’t expect to be close now desperately need resources to get out the vote. Watch for a new list on Swing 33 of ridings that need help now.

Thanks!
